Nick Kyrgios vs Stanislas Wawrinka – Rogers Cup 2015

If you have not yet had a chance to watch Nick Kyrgios play Stanislas Wawrinka last night at the ATP Montreal Masters 2015, you can watch some of what blew up Twitter here.

Last night in Montreal Nick Kyrgios vs Stanislas Wawrinka – Rogers Cup 2015 took to the stage. There is no disputing the fact that Nick Kyrgios is without a doubt one of the most talented Tennis players on the ATP tour. However, that does not give him the right to disrespect his opponents the way he did against Stanislas Wawrinka. Wawrinka’s coach Magnus Normon was furious about the comment Nick Kyrgios made about Stanislas Wawrinka’s girlfriend Donna Vekic who happens to play on the WTA. In response to Nick Kyrgios’s comment, this is what Magnus Normon had to say, “Someone should teach Nick Kyrgios a thing or 2”. Personally, I’m surprised Magnus was able to hold it together so well. And that’s what makes Magnus Normon a true professional of the sport. From what I understand, Nick Kyrgios did get a $10,000 fine, but that number may increase, as well as a possible suspension. If the sport of Tennis is serious about maintaining it’s “prestige”, the ATP or whoever, needs to act on this situation fast. Otherwise hot heads like Nick Kyrgios will continue to run their mouths at whoever they want, whenever they want.

Even though Nick Kyrgios is a very talented Tennis player, I’m not sure this kind of controversy is good for the sport. Sure, some say we need this in Tennis, I disagree. Conducting yourself like a true professional is what the sport of Tennis is all about. The way Nick Kyrgios carries himself on the court is “Thug Like”. It seems like he has a chip on his should no matter who he plays and I’m not OK with that. Last nights match against Stanislas Wawrinka was no different.
